Meeting With Mike, Dan & Jared

We are not suppose to update our blog right now since we have submitted our work today but our tutor Mike Smith have gave as permission to do so regarding our meeting today with Jared and Dan. The meeting was about our final film, which we had submitted on Friday that we have gone over the time limit because our film was about over 5mins long so our tutors helped us to cut down unnecessary part for the degree show. Most importantly we had an issue with the back ground sound on certain part of the film, which i wasn't aware of since Alex and Prince had both worked on it Thursday. So viewing the final film with the background sound was first time for me and i do agree on what the tutors had suggested as to do. Both Alex and Prince used a music, which did not suit with the film and will some how put off the viewers. So with that said we will work on it this week and it will be ready before the degree show. But the meeting on the other hand did go positively as we received very nice comments particularly Jared said as quote "your film is technically professional" this really made our group so confidence yet surprising and it really did make us smile and proud of our work as we walked home:D. So I like to thank Mike Smith, Jared Taylor and Dan Dalli for their wonderful comments and for their feedback and suggestion.

Individual Submission

Monday is the final submission deadline and i have everything prepared. I have three folders called Artist, Animation and Technical and in these three folders i have placed all the work i did for Glitch film. So tomorrow i shall submit my CD to Dan Dalli before 10:30am so i can be free!

I also like to thank the members of the group, which are Alex and Prince for taking me in their group and for their hard work. We as a group worked well together, we shared ideas and listen to one another and also we have every time meet mini deadlines that we have set for group and individually. Last of all i have enjoyed working with them and hoping to work with Alex and Prince in the near future.

Also like to thank Dan Dalli for giving his feedback and his suggestion on how to improve the film and made us really boosted with confidence due to his positive feedback.

Last of all i like to thank Robert Newman for his excellent sound effects, which really made the film come alive. He has made the sound so perfect as I and the group have imagine.

I believe that our film Glitch, personally is a unique film, which we have successfully translated the story to the audience as their been so many improvements, terms of changing the story, manage to add humour and add some mystery feeling to the viewers, which personally I and the group felt. Overall I am very proud of what we have produced for this film, the film has come out the way we have wanted because we have successfully improved the story in the terms of how, when and why method

At first it was really hard to think about it and as a group we have come up with many ideas but wasn't that great to translate to the audience because it did not make sense. So i have gave the idea to the group of why not having certain object going inside the computer and creating a virus some how. Orb came to mind because it is different and wanted to make the story more interesting yet simple. Because i have manage to come up with the idea Alex and Prince have given me the huge task to take care of this scene. So looking now I personal think i have successful translated this term of how, when and why method and hoping that the viewers think that way.

Sound Editing & Compositing Final Film

We have received the final sound from the Robert Newman(sound guy), which is unfinished but the sound effect is amazing. So we decided to finish off the sounds our self. So we went home that day and did the sound individually and meet up on Thursday 18th and compare what we did so we can choose, which one suits best. I did not come on Thursday due to family problems but i did do my version of the sounds, which i will upload here at the bottom, so from what i heard Prince couldn't find any sounds but Alex did, so we have used Alex's sounds. Whereas in the morning me an Alex came in that day but Prince was late, so me and Alex both worked with the ending background music of the film to the credits together and decided to have terminator theme music because it resembles our film "man vs the machine" and to add humour, below is what me and Alex have produced. Furthermore when i heard the music with the credits it made me emotional of the hard work me and the group put into as our name was on the screen :(

So finally we have finished the final film and ready to submit on Friday 19th and when we all saw it, we were very proud, excited and looking forward to the degree show.

Final After Effects On Prince's Glitch City Scenes

This is the final Prince's Glitch city scenes with After Effects i did, from the previous test their is few effects that i have got rid off because the group felt that it takes over Princes scene. In my previous post i have mention that Dan Dalli ask me to fix my camera in my scene, as the camera stays still to long when 2 orbs go though the motion path. So the camera should be moving and panning also to speed up my scene. So i have just produced what he has ask me to do and here is a playblast.

Also i have re-rendered this scene again and it has just finished rendering now.

After Effects On Prince's Glitch City Test

Just finished after effects on Prince's Glitch city scenes, i have used stroke's, random particles and smoke effects using the plug-in trapcode, form and 3D strokes. Below are video's test i did using prince's blockout.

So today i went to uni and showed these video test to Alex and Price, they are please with the effects but they want the stroke to be more opacity because they wanted to see more of the black background, also Dan Dalli and Prince told me to have less smoke.
I will wait for Friday to make these changes as prince going to give me the actual render scenes to work with as he has edited some animation and the camera work to.
Also in the meeting today Dan Dalli ask me to fix my camera in my scene as the camera stays still to long when 2 orbs go though the motion path. So the camera should be moving and panning also to speed up my scene. So until now and Friday i shall fix my camera work, speed up my scene and re-render into movie. Then i can start on after effects on Princes Glitch city again with his final render scenes.

Group Meeting With Robert Newman(Sound Designer)

Today we had a meeting with Robert(sound designer) and we went though our blockout with him. I talked him though my scene and what sort of sound i would like and Robert told me theirs no problem and he can sort it out for me and he will do a test audio for next Thursday. So i am really looking forward to that. Then as a group we then looked at our blockout and looked at any improvements we can make and we had so much interesting ideas particularly Alex's scene. The idea we had is quite tricky but I'm sure Alex will manage it as he is a talented animator :D.
Also i suggested to Prince that in his motherboard scene, if the was a orb going though a air vent to my scene, it will be a good transition as it would make sense of orb going though a motion path in my scene, so today me and Prince stayed at uni and he has produce what i had told him. Futhermore Alex had wrote a list of improvements to be made in our film these are the following:

* Credits overlay on beginning scene

* Change cuts on veron introduction scene

* Clock to show time

* Never have static camera on Princes scenes and animate binary moving.

* Electrons/orbs going through wire on first transition, camera follows orbs into mother board and into the Rahul's room.

* Prince's scenes need to be rendered with Quantel PAL res (NOT 640x800)

* Alex needs to give Rahul 5 second clip to show in my credits.

* Prince Glitch scene, have glitch close to camera, flash steps away a few times then on last flash step Glitch is right up close to the screen to make the viewer jump back.

* Vernon not sitting at desk in scene 10, but squatting on his chair typing frantically.

* When Vernon puts in anti-virus CD, camera zooms into CD drive and follows police orbs through the wire into princes scene.

* Vernon face turns red like thermometer using prem pro/after effects.

* When critical error on princes scene, camera starts with a red screen, zooms back slowly to reveal glitch then zooms back even further to reveal the red glitch infected world. (Make sure the whole screen is filled with storms, clouds, red lighting, red binary, red electricity etc......)

* After Prince's red infected glitch world scene, grabs keyboard and smashes it, letters fly out towards screen spelling out "Glitch". camera transition back through the wire and looks at Vernon from behind the screen. Vernon grabbing screen(camera) and shaking it and falls over and drops the screen on it side/diagonal position (Vernon looks distorted/fish eye/concave).

* Last scene, Vernon peeking his head from underneath the table and looking at the screen, screen says "welcome to....the worlds most reliable computer systems ever)

For the mean time i am still carrying on with after effects test on Prince's Glitch city.

Group Meeting & Texture Prince's Glitch City Update

Today we had a meeting with Dan Dalli and he was really please because we are making progress. He mention that he is pleased with the updated blockout which has few final render scene, such as mine and Alex's scenes and that one thing he likes about it, is the fact that it is simple and different. This has made our group really positive and confident, also Dan has pointed out few improvements that can be changed, so this is something we are going to work on for the past weeks.

After the meeting i showed Prince the final texture, which i did for him, he mention that the texture on the police station was distorted in certain areas and that the siren on the police orb should be more glow and the screen name to be change into VITAL ERROR, which is flashing.
So me and Prince stayed at uni and worked on it together and luckily Prince had solution with the distortion issue that i had and he had said that planer map should solve this issue, which worked at the end. Below is few images that was changed from my previous post.

So with that said i have given this final texture file to Prince, so that he can work on animation and final camera work. In the meantime i will wait for him to render into final scene's so that i can start on after effects. While i wait for him until next monday, i will work on the end credits and also to practice on after effects with his test blockout scenes so that i can get prepared when he does give me the final render scenes.

Texture Prince's Glitch City & Rotating Police Siren

Today i started texturing Prince's glitch city, Prince had told me to only texture the police cube ship and to rotate the police orb siren, this is the outcome i have produce:

Above is a play blast to show how the the screen pops up with the word VIRUS ATTACK and once that happens the police orb start entering the glitch world with rotating siren.

So Monday we going to have a group meeting and i will give this final texture file to Prince in order for him to produce the final camera onto this scene so that he can send the file to me and i can start doing some cool effects on after effects:)

Group Meeting

So last Friday we had a group meeting to see how we making progress, we have looked at mine, Alex and Prince's updated work and how we can improve and making suggestion. Overall we were very pleased with the work we have produced particularly the new blockout, so with that said we have decided to meet next Thursday again for group meeting, which is today.

Today i have showed the group my final render scene with after effects, they were really pleased and amaze with it and then we started to fix the speeding time of my scene so it does not succeed the time limit of our short film. Also we have set new individual task for the next of the upcoming weeks until the deadline. As i have finish my final scene and ready to be audio composite, Alex and Prince given me the task of texturing Prince's Glitch city also to do after effects for his scene for secondary animation. So Prince has given me the file today and i will work with it this week also given the role of producing the ending credits for our short film, So the is alot of work to be done and no time to waste :)

HUD Vision Using After Effects

This is my HUD vision that i have produced in after effects using the camera that is tracking the 3rd orb going though the motion path. Also this is just a glimpse of the test i did as i don't want to reveal the final thing. With that said i also had to add an 2-3 second clip of the robot looking up to the air vent because the transition work better when the 2nd orb finishing its motion path.

From the research that i have collected i added the following:

Target
Grid (to help robot balance when flying)
Some graphic interface such as loading and virus
Random letters and numbers which is animated randomly
The use of glow and typical colours such as blue, green and red

Render Final Scene & 1st Person view Hud effects research

I have rendered my final scene using metal ray, which took 1 week to complete, I then thought about after effects and how i can bring that into my scene and after thinking long and hard i manage to come with an idea of 1st Person view, HUD effects for example Terminator or Iron Man point of view. Were you have targets and random letters on the screen and some graphic elements such as grids. So how can i use this 1st Person view of HUD effect in my scene?, well from my previous post i mention that i have created a flying robot and if you look at my final blockout you can see that their is 3 orbs going though the motion path but the 3rd one has its own camera tracking to it. So i will use this camera to become 1st Person view of HUD effects for the flying robot. So in my next post i will upload an example of what i am talking about, if it doesn't make sense to you. So first i have to do some research so i can get an idea of what HUD looks like.

Secondary Animation For My Scene

Well when i have finished my final blockout of my scene, i and my group notice that it needed some secondary animation to make my scene look more alive. So i have decided to model a flying robot to fly randomly and moving fan on the wall and also random bubbles floating inside the green pillars. Again i updated my blog animation since Alex and Prince also Dennis (tutor) felt that when the third orb hits the CPU unit and the plug creates a spark the camera should zoom into the orb and show the transformation of the orb turning blue to red as my previous orb animation 001 did not show this. Furthermore the group really liked the outcome of my blockout particularly the camera movement, which i am pleased about.

After having a group meeting with Alex and Prince, they have given me some feedback on my orb animation i had did. As their is 2 orbs going though the motion path with still camera movement, well they wanted 3 orb to go though the motion path with the first two orb having still camera movement while the last orb with camera tracking on to it. So then i have updated my orb animation and this is my final outcome i have produced.

Dynamics

The are three different dynamics in my scene, which are creating sparks, lightning on orb and orb transformation to blue to red at the end of the scene.

1. Creating sparks

First i created a emitter surface cube and positioned it on front of the CPU plug
Setup the Rate (how many particles are generated in a second)
Lifespan mode to randon range
Particle render type to cloud becuse in order to render by metal ray
Assign a Particle Cloud material to the particle,
and connect a Ramp texture to the Life Transparency,
then transparency will change at time.
Connect a Turbulence field to the particle to move randomly.
Set more than 0 to the Tangent Speed,
then the particles will be generated randomly from the surface.
Make the Drag field the child of the cube emitter and gravity field too so the sparks fall to the ground.
At the end Split sparks, so when spark hits the floor it dissolves to creates new sparks to bounce off the ground and making sure that the particle make collide to the floor and CPU unit so that sparks dont go though the object selected.

2. lightning on orb

In order to acieve this i have selected the mother orb and click on create lightning
Modified the lighting atrubutes, its thickness and max spread
Then clicked on end of the joint of lighting and animated it on random keyframe so that it moves random area within the timeline.
At the end lowered the point light intensity so i get a better orb transformation

3. Orb transformaion blue to red
I clicked on a frame were i want to set a keyframe were i want the orb to start transform. Then on a attribute Editor i clicked on another frame, change the attribute value, and Set Key. Then i repeat the same process with color atrrubutes blue to red in random keyframe with scaling the orb big and small to add some effect. At the end i change the material transparent, change the Transparency value,and also change Specular Color and Reflectivity. Because Specular Color value and Reflectivity value are added to brightness of the surface.

Orb Animation with story board

After the texture was done i then started with the animation. Most of the animation is with motion path using the orb were it travels to its path that i have created using CV curve tool.

The first part of the scene is the orb enters though the air vent were it travels around one of the pillars then goes inside the wire, which connects to the CPU unit.
Which make the fan turn on by it self, that makes the orb travel to the leg of the orb generator, which makes the generator light turn on
then at the end it touches the mother of the orb.
Next part of the scene, a different orb enters though the air vent and travels though its motion path, which is a repeat of the previous orb animation.
Yet when it travels though the wire to the end of the CPU unit and because the fan is already running, the end of the wire which the orb traveled into creates a spark which makes the orb colour change into blue to red. Trying to empathize the orb becomes a virus,
which then travels though the leg of the orb generator to the mother of the orb and creates a flashing orb with vibration effect. which creates lightning that makes rest of the orb into red virus that the camera quickly zooms into the mother orb were the Glitch city is first introduced.

Environment/Props Texture

Next step is texturing the room environment and below is my texture images that will be used in my scene:

Next i started using these textures and placed them in my props, these are the following outcome that i have produced.

For the GPU grabber i have used cylindrical mapping to wrap the texture around so it does not look distort or any empty spaces, which i then add reflectivity.

The texture nvidia logo, which was places in the top of the GPU unit

For the Pillars, the texture that was used is mostly images of buttons, screens and few machine parts, which i have used cylindrical mapping to wrap the texture around, which i then add reflectivity on.

The texture intel logo with random codes, which was places in the front of the chip.

Here you see texture on the orb generator were i used photoshop to get that effect, the way i done this is i got a original image and made it into gray scale and then combine the two image together by bump mapping on maya. So that the image does not look like its flat and that it is sticking out since i wanted a goblin spotty skin effect.

Lastly a image of a futuristic motherboard texture for the floor with added green glow to add an effect. I used photoshop to get bump effect, using the original image and made it into gray scale and then combine the two image together by bump mapping on maya. So that the image does not look like its flat and that it is sticking out. Whereas having the black area with extra bumping by maximizing the attributes so it gives an impression of black water running on the floor as you can see from the image, which was highly achieved that I am really pleased:)

Well first i have created the empty room with a door on the left so the character Glitch can exit though. I then placed two pillars in the room and small window in the ceiling, so spot light can come though.I then created two model of a wire with a slot at the end and placed it one of the side wall.In the bottom two pictures i positioned the GPU & machine claw at the end of the room while the CPU in the middle of the room with its wire slot connected to its power supply.Then i duplicated the CPU cooler fan only and placed it on the right wall at the end, reason for additional fan, "well we don't want the hard drive to heat up do we"As you can see from this image i have placed four rings on the front wall, also a chip on the left wall. I was thinking using that chip as a screen, picture frame or even a dart boards were venom picture is on the board with darts on his face, trying to suggest the hate for venom. This could be a clue to the viewers the reason behind of the computer crashing error. I then placed 20 sticks on the floor(motherboard), i don't know the name of the sticks but its found on every computer motherboard.After that i imported my orb generator, which is next to the CPU, adding the orb generator really made the room more alive because of the blue spot light, which i am pleased about. Then i added another spot light on top of the window ceiling. This is were i planned the character glitch to be positioned on, so the spot light is lighting on him while he is sleeping so the scene is focus on him rather than the environment.I then model five pillars and placed it on the end of the front wall with the wall transparent. The is a reason for why this wall is transparent this is because it acts as a glass wall and so the viewers see a glimpse of the outside city with the use of particles in maya. This will show the viewers that this room is not the only world that was created inside the computer.At the end i modeled a wire that going across the room and then duplicated the object and placed it on the ceiling and left side wall as you can see from the three image below.Below is my final blockout, i am pleased with the outcome i have produced yet need to tweak the spotlight on the orb generator but this was just an experiment as i will look into it in my 2nd/3rd year. So as for the next term i will model the environment of my blockout in detail with textures and also to do secondary animation for example fan and orb rotating. Next i will submit this blockout to glitch group for presentation on friday but without lighting/glow as this is not necessary for the blockout.

Orb Generator With Glowing Orbs

I have model the orb generator, which i then extruded the botton face of the generator to create what looks like a octopus legs.

Then i have smoothed the object, the outcome looks very nice as i wanted, which i will use the legs to crawl though the room.I then created some orbs with different sizes, which i then use blin with glow effect, as these orbs will rotate within the generator as if it gravitating in air.

Ater using glow under blin attrubutes i then used a spot light, which i have placed it top of the generator with the colour blue to add an effect.

Below is test animation of the orb rotating around, i like the outcome but yet need to do some tweaking on the light glow and the spot light aswell but will do that when i import the object to the environment room.

I then collected some images of inside of a computer and I'm going to model the parts and use it as props in my ally way environments, the parts may be model as destroyed because the character venom had bashed the computer so it will have lots of wires hanging out.

Glitch Project

Another Project that i have joined is the Glitch project, working with Alex and Prince. They have ask me to help out Prince with his environment of inside of a computer. So for this task i have given the role of environment alleyway where glitch is sleeping when he is first introduced. After the role that i have been given, the group had ask me that the theme should be blue and green and more fantasy approach rather than realistic. So meaning not to model the inside of what hard drive looks like but has a fantasy environment secretly build by the character Glitch what looks like the matrix world. So i will have to do some research first so i can make a start with the alleyway blockout model, which i have 8days to produce for the deadline.
